Hey friends! Happy Friday! It has been a BUSY week, so today is going to be filled with nothing. I hope. Then again, I am a mom, so most likely the kids will keep my up and busy.
Here’s the thing…Animal Kingdom is a great park. Kendall loves it and so do I. But, it’s more geared towards older kids/adults. There are a few rides for the littles and some characters meet and greets plus a little area called Rafiki’s Planet Watch, which is really cute. My point is….it’s a great park, go to it, but you should only need half a day or so to explore pretty much everything you want to see.
Tip 1: Go in the morning
I highly recommend heading to Animal Kingdom in the morning. Why? Well, Florida gets hot and when it gets hot, the animals hide. So rides like the Kilimanjaro safari are less fun because all the animals are looking to cool off in the afternoon. But, if you head in the morning, you should get to see them all. And, Animal Kingdom is a lot of walking. So, if you’re there before it’s super hot, you’ll be able to handle it better.
Tip 2: Fastpass+ all the things
Use fastpass+. The rides here get busy and they get busy fast because there aren’t a lot of them. Fastpass the safari first thing and save the Kali river rapids for a little later since there’s a good chance you’ll get wet.
Fastpass choices for littles: The Kilimanjaro safari, Mickey and Minnie meet and greet, and It’s tough to be a bug (not a ride…3D film and live show). There’s a dumbo like ride in the dinosaur area but you can’t get a fastpass for it and there’s also the Na’vi River journey but good luck getting a fastpass for it unless you’re staying at a Disney resort
The rest of the rides have height restrictions. But my favorites are Kali river rapids, Everest, and Kilimanjaro safari. The rides at the new Avatar world are getting ready to open but they will have super longs lines. Grab a fastpass if you can!
Tip 3: Characters and shows
See a show. Finding Nemo and The Festival of the Lion King. Plus, it gives you a chance to cool off.
The only characters you can grab a fastpass for are Mickey and Minnie. Here’s a list of the characters. I suggest picking one or two must sees and fastpass Mickey and Minnie. That way you’re not standing in line for characters all day.
Tip 4: Get the pineapple ice cream.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again…get it. Always get it. They have it at Tamu Tamu refreshments. It’s amazing.
Tip 5: The Wilderness Explorers
So this is really fun for the kids. They can grab a Wilderness Explorer book and get a badge for every thing they complete. Kendall and Colin loved doing this. And it was something to take their mind off of all the walking. Just a little something extra for the kids to do and helps keep them entertained instead of complaining or wishing for toys.
And that’s that! I really suggest not missing out on Animal Kingdom. It is a fun park, but like I said before, one that doesn’t really take all day. You can definitely head there in the morning and to one of the others later in the day. The kids loved seeing the animals and riding the few rides that are there. Don’t miss out on Pandora: World of Avatar that is opening up in just a few short weeks!
As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask…If I don’t know the answer, I’ll find someone who will. Happy planning!
