One of my big goals for this year isn’t to read more. I love reading. Always have. My mom always told me that I learned to read in a day and while I’m sure that wasn’t meant literally, it’s probably pretty close to true. And I get on reading marathons. I’ll read 4-5 books in a couple weeks, then give it up for awhile and go back to reading…so on and so forth.
But the past few years, I just didn’t. I almost stopped reading altogether but the love of reading was still there. So I’d pick up the occasional book and then that was that.
I’ve missed reading. Reading helps me decompress and when I’m super stressed, it calms me way down. Plus I usually learn things or find some inspiration for something. I made the goal this year to be more intentional about reading. Carving out a little time each day to read. Even if it’s only 15 minutes. And anyone can do anything for 15 minutes.
Bottom line…reading is good for the soul. Something about it soothes people. It’s cathartic and a perfect way to escape all life’s throws at you.
So week 2 of the #newyeabeyou challenge is..read a book. Take some time every day to read. And if you need some book recommendations, I’ve got ya covered:
Reading doesn’t have to be a chore. It doesn’t have to be something that feels like work. Sit down with a hot cup of tea or glass of wine…curl up with a comfy blanket…take a bath…and spend some time with a book. You might just learn something new and you might just learn something about yourself.
